The 7-7-7 Challenge

Oh my god, I haven’t posted in so long it’s obscene.

But to get me back into the blog posting game I’ve been tagged by Madhuri Blaylock to join the 7-7-7 challenge. Which immediately made me think of the Demon Lord, but that’s how my weird mind works.

demond-lord2

Sorry, I had to make a NANA reference. I had to!

Any *ahem* back to the point…

The 7-7-7 challenge has nothing to do with the Demon Lord at all (or Demon-Sama for you purists), instead it’s a way to give readers a teeny tiny taste of your work in progress and whet their appetite. 🙂

It’s also a great way for me to get back into the writing groove because I had to put my precious baby on hold for a month and I really want to get back to Songhay and Niko (they’re proving to be more fun than I expected, heh heh).

What you do is go to the 7th page of your WIP, start on the 7th line of that page and post 7 lines.

So without further ado, here is my 7-7-7 sneak peek of Monster, book 4 of The Outsider Chronicles

Itadakimasu!

There were two types of Slithers, pale, inhuman, monsters with disturbingly colored eyes, a mouthful of long sharp teeth and a taste for human flesh.

They were pretty straightforward in their quest for their favorite meal. They were incredibly stupid but they were also too fast and too strong for anyone to stop unless they were a Slither hunter.

The smart ones were crafty, a regular Slither wouldn’t have thought to hide beneath the house.

Niko thought they had killed the smart one.

She was wrong.

I’m tagging, Betty Cross, and Tima Maria Lacoba!

It’s Here!

OUTSIDER

I feel like throwing confetti and having a parade because Outsider is finally available for pre-order!

It’s been a long road, much longer than I’d originally anticipated, but I’ve never been more satisfied with a the end result (I even got a friend of mine to like a character she previously didn’t like, if that isn’t great I don’t know what is). I can’t wait for all of you to get your hands on a copy. Helpful hint: You might want to check out the other books in the series while you wait so you’re not lost in the sauce :p

Blurb

Surrounded by hunger and degradation, the city of Cherai is a sparkling, opulent metropolis, a dazzling centerpiece in humanity’s fight against Slithers and acid rain. And at its heart, keeping everything shining and bright, are the Grey-Men, an oppressed workforce, drugged into submission.

But not for long.

Upon escaping her fate as a Grey-man, Niko is determined to free the whole lot, liberating all from their bondage. Together with Ben, Songhay and the Gemini Gang, they plan to take control of the city. To do that they must control the one thing no one can live without.

Water.

It only takes four days to die of thirst.

Cover Reveal!

So I’ve talked about it and talked about it and now (dramatic music) it’s here! The cover for Outsider the 3rd book in the Outsider Chronicles in all it’s gloriousness!OUTSIDER

All around them was devastation. It’d been over two weeks since the blaze had ripped through the slums but it looked like it’d only happened the day before.

Drifts of ash coated the ground. It seemed to neutralize the acid so there was still blackened bits of rubble jutting out. They were surrounded by the skeletal remains of makeshift homes.

“I think this is– was Freetown,” Songhay said. He walked up to a set of steps, all that remained of one home. “It’s kind of hard to tell though.” On the step was a doll. It was plastic, made before the rain, all of its limbs were gone and it was missing one eye. He stared at it but made no move to pick it up.

He rubbed his face. “Let’s go find them.”

They trekked through what remained of the slums, kicking up puffs of ash. The next rainfall would wash it all away and disintegrate whatever remained.

Book Review: Bloodgifted by Tima Maria Lacoba

ff4e7919d2d8ae3f11cee680cfe81a93357be263

Laura Dantonville knows her family possesses a gene that makes them age much slower than the average Australian but it isn’t until her 50th birthday that she’s told of her true heritage. She is part vampire and her family has been placed under a curse since the time of the Romans. Now that she has turned fifty Laura has the key to break that curse but she’s also the target of every rogue vampire in the city as her blood gives them the ability to walk in the sunlight.
To keep her safe she’s assigned a guardian, the handsome Alec, who because of his own ancestors also has a part to play in breaking the curse.
But there are forces, both human and vampire, determined to keep them apart and perpetuate the cursed legacy.
I haven’t read any paranormal or vampire novels in a while but Bloodgifted by Tima Maria Lacoba made me remember everything that I love about the genre.
Laura is a sweet but resilient character, she also has a very sarcastic wit which when coupled with Alec’s own makes for some great banter and adds to the growing chemistry between the two.
I really liked the vampire lore in Bloodgifted, it was very unique and constructed in a way that made perfect sense. I’d love to see how Lacoba builds upon it in the future books.
I’ll end by saying Alec is quite the hunk *fans self* and I can’t wait to read more about Laura and Alec’s adventures in the next book!

Outsider Cookie

Yay, I’m practically, almost finished with Outsider, the third book in the Outsider Chronicles! I’m pretty proud of it if I’m allowed to brag (shines brightly).

I’ve decided to share the love by giving you guys a little snippet, or rather a cookie.

In ye olden days (you know, like the 80’s — kidding!) when cookies were first created they were actually used to test if the oven was hot enough before baking a cake. And since reading Outsider in its entirety will be like enjoying on a nice moist cake (unless you’re on a diet, then I would suggest that you cheat, cake is yummy), these snippets are the equivalent of cookies!

(or at least that’s how my weird mind is working today)

Anyway,

Itadakimasu!

Niko sat on the floor in her room, the contents of the Phoenix folder spread out before her. She had flipped through it again and again until the photos began to blur before her eyes and the words became nothing more than black smudges on white paper.

But no matter how many times she flipped through it, a tiny part of her hoping that in her absence the words had rearranged themselves into more pleasing sentences, she always found herself coming to the same photo.

She and her mother posed for the camera, her mother wore a white lab coat, the emblem of the Phoenix Corporation embroidered on one pocket. Niko herself was about five or six and stared unsmilingly at the camera.

On the back, in stark black ink was a short sentence: Subject: H4N-11KO, ‘Harmony’

Her parents were not her parents.
